Read Here and Get Smarter
Start new habits of old ways of thinking. Walk. Memorize. Challenge Thinking in the old ways is healthier for our brains
Walking Helps the Mind Think.
Since the time of the Greeks, writers know that walking helps them think more clearly and see the world in new and fascinating ways. What Henry David Thoreau, who wrote Walden Pond, said, bears repeating, “Methinks that the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow.”

Think, think, think.
Don’t watch, watch, watch TV or YouTube. The brain is designed to figure out problems, be challenged by new concepts and mysteries. Unfortunately, the brain loves to be pleased with sparking light and humor. Also, too much of just watching sitcoms and goofy YouTube bogs the brain down. A little is okay. But most folks watch too much. *If you’re going to watch TV, at least watch a mystery with few commercials.
New research indicates moving, especially dancing, helps older individuals alleviate certain elements of dementia and balance.
Challenge, challenge, challenge.
Boy! does our brain love challenges! The thinking brain loves to solve things. Used to be, shade-tree mechanics would work out the problems with a car engine by tinkering around with the parts that they kind of understood. Over time, they got good at solving the issues of the car. They could just listen to the sound of the pinging or clanking and KNOW what was wrong. That ah ha moment is a great boost for brains.
Memorize, memorize, memorize.
With a conscious effort, anyone can memorize long writings, poems, numbers in sequence. The very things our brains thrived on – memorizing all the important phone numbers in our lives has been eliminated by smartphones. That’s a shame when the phone gets to be smarter than us. Start small and memorize a few phone numbers. Memorize a Bible verse or psalm. Memorize the words to a song. For a greater challenge, go online and learn memorization techniques. Your brain will love you for it.
