Scrooge and Cratchit Detectives
An innocent man accused of murders. Plenty of ghosts. Hard-fighting, clever dwarves. A masked killer lurking in the mines. Excellent Victorian-styled romance. Gun battles. Secret tunnels. A miracle. Plot twists!
A clever teen pickpocket. Multiple, amazing, literary characters. Daring escapes!
And two of the most unqualified detectives ever!
Be ready to be surprised, scared, and enchanted. Scrooge and Cratchit – Detectives: A Dickensian Christmas Mystery is termed 5 stars and a winner. Take some of Charles Dickens’ most memorable characters, add brave new characters, include a few despicable criminals, and some spine-chilling suspense, and you’ve got your next favorite book. Who, if anyone, will survive for Christmas?
Curt Locklear reinvigorates Dickens for a new generation, bringing the beloved, classic characters of Ebenezer Scrooge and Bob Cratchit further along their journey. Now, they are on the case of a terrific Victorian murder mystery full of twists and turns with loving echoes of Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. He’ll keep you guessing all the way to the end with lots of nods and winks to those paying close attention. And since it’s Scrooge, there’s no shortage of ghosts, life lessons and the spirit of Christmas. – Christopher Lastrapes, former Warner Bros. Marketing and Development Director

Scrooge and Cratchit Detectives: The Dark Malevolence
Scrooge, Cratchit, and Lockie, along with the help of a new London bobbie, Officer Hart, must solve four crimes working simultaneously; or London could collapse into Civil War.
When a mysterious chain of murders and attacks strike London, Scrooge, Cratchit, and Sherlock “Lockie” Holmes (the soon-to-be father of the great detective) team up with the Metropolitan police and Officer Hart to investigate. Just as evidence starts falling into place, Scrooge is yet again visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley, only this time Marley is not alone.
Before the lamps were lit, shadows came
teeming forth from every corner. But behind
the desk, something else was there.
Dark. Malicious. Waiting.
The detectives and police are faced with murder, kidnappings, and a pack of half-men, half dogs before eventually discovering an underground scheme as wicked as the force that haunts them.
Now they must work together to find the thread that binds these crimes together, stop the criminals, and squelch the dark malevolence that threatens to take over the city and end them all.
REVIEW: From the outset, I found myself immediately being transported to Victorian London. The descriptions of the stovepipe hats, the pipe smoking, the wintery storm, and the description of the pub that the two detectives visit early on all serve to instantly transport the reader and immerse you in that world. This has always been a literary hook that authors use to make you feel part of the story, and it also makes it hard for you to put the book itself down. This is one of Mr. Locklear’s gifts as a writer, (see his magnificent Asunder trilogy) and he continues to refine it with each new work. Bravo, Mr. Locklear, Dickens would be proud!!

Scrooge and Cratchit Detectives: Treasure and Murder in Ireland
Will time run out for Scrooge and Cratchit to unravel the latest mysteries in Murder and Treasure in Ireland and prevent epic disasters? Award-winning storyteller Curt Locklear is back at it with the third installment in the Scrooge and Cratchit: Detective mystery series published by Warren Publishing that will keep you on your toes. In book three, Locklear transports readers to the epicenter of the Great Potato Famine, setting the stage for an enthralling tale of murder, treasure, and dark magic.
Set against the backdrop of England and Ireland during the devastating Potato Famine, beloved characters Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and Sherlock “Lockie” Holmes Sr.—father of the famous detective—embark on a relentless quest to unravel another round of perplexing mysteries. Three murders, two perilous ocean voyages, and the aid of a newfound martial arts expert (Abigail) all lead to a spellbinding adventure. Locklear’s cast also includes a brilliant woman scientist (Lucy), defying the conventions of the time, as well as a slew of supernatural beings who will captivate readers and keep them on the edge of their seats.
Spinning suspense at every page turn, Locklear skillfully weaves together a tapestry of mystery, action, and supernatural elements that expands on Dickens’s original characters, making this novel an unmissable addition to the series. “If Dickens can add ghosts to a story, why wouldn’t he love adding leprechauns, pookas, and faeries?” Locklear muses. “My joy comes from giving people great stories—hopefully ones they’ll remember and fall in love with.”
Embark on an unforgettable adventure as the detectives gather clues and questions arise: Are these murders somehow connected? Will the murderer(s) strike again? And will the detectives be able to thwart the sinister forces brewing in the background? With stakes higher than ever, the trio must race against time to prevent ancient treasures with Biblical connections from falling into the wrong hands and unleashing an earthly disaster. This exciting mystery centered around classic holiday characters is one readers won’t be able to put down.

Asunder
A Novel of the Civil War
With war surrounding them, Union and Confederate male and female protagonists are caught in a battle to survive. Thoroughly researched, Asunder is a story of intense action, of love and loss, and of families torn apart.
Cyntha Favor, an abolitionist and ardent believer in Spiritualism, searches the battlefield in hopes of finding her husband’s grave. Having received erroneous reports of Joseph’s death, she hopes to free his tormented soul. Joseph, however, was knocked out in the battle and has amnesia.
Sara Reeder, an excellent horse-woman is thrust into the Wilson Creek battle maelstrom. Dred Workman, a conniving Union soldier and deserter to the Rebels, falsely convinces Joseph he is a Confederate cavalryman.
Lucas, Sara’s father and a disabled veteran, owns one aged slave, Abram. Over the years, the two have become close friends.
Joined by her freeman employee and confidant, Josiah Reynolds, Cyntha’s headstrong manner lands her in confinement by the Union army. After accidentally learning her brother is accused of robbery, and aided by a quirky Rebel supporter, she plans to escape.
Her brother is a passenger on a steamboat that sinks in a storm. The survivors are attacked by River Pirates.
With marauder gangs, the Spiritualists Fox sisters holding séances, and devastating battles, Asunder drives towards a devastating climax.

Splintered
Book 2 of the Asunder Trilogy
The second in a trilogy, Splintered, follows the interconnections among a superbly memorable cast of characters during the middle of the Civil War as they internally and externally wrestle with why they’re fighting, or why they’re not fighting at all. Others will grapple with mere survival when the war alarmingly shows up on their front lawn or storefront.
Asunder readers will delight in the return of abolitionists Cyntha and Joseph Favor, Confederate sympathizers Sara Reeder and Constance Carver, the continuation of opportunists known as the Spiritualist Fox Sisters, and a new storyline involving Wranglers who round up and move horses under harrowing conditions to supply the Confederacy.
From its heart-wrenching opening scene of stoic grief in a Lincoln White House on the day of his son Willie’s death to the final heart-wrenching battle scene and surprising assassination plot against Lincoln, Splintered proves itself a novel of sweeping, artfully rendered proportions, and one that is at times deeply moving, while always intelligent and socially conscious.
